August is renowned for its beautiful colourful landscape and it is largely down to large amounts of heather, predominantly ling and bell heather, that produce beautiful purple flowers and light up the views ahead and around us. For such a beautiful flower it really doesn't last long enough but guess that’s why it is even more sought after when it does come out in bloom!
It is also getting to the time of year for mushrooms to pop up whenever and wherever. This mushroom is part of the Boletus family and is one of many different kinds that can be found throughout Rothiemurchus. It is just not on the ground that mushrooms are growing but also on the trees themselves. It won’t be long until the mushrooms will be hard to spot, heading into Autumn the fallen leaves will act as camouflage and animals looking to have a bite to eat will have to use their sense of smell to allow them to forage for their dinner; looks like this one has already been tried!
